Fundraising Tips:

  • Set a personal goal and send a letter to everyone you know. It is a rule of thumb that 50 or more letters usually equals your goal.
  • Be open about why you are walking and why they should contribute to this cause or join your team.
  • In fund-raising letters, ask for what you feel each individual would be willing to give.
  • Remind your donors to utilize corporate matching programs.
  • Use other affiliations to raise money or recruit team members. Let your church, school, or any other organizations that you belong to know what you are doing and how the members can help. See if you  can put a notice in your church bulletin, school paper, or organization newsletter.
  • Use your place of business to place information and a chart on how your fund-raising is going; make sure co-workers can see it.
  • Utilize company newsletters or bulletin boards to get information out. See if your company will put up posters or table tents in a lunchroom or even let you pass out brochures or information. Let us know how we can help.
  • Don't overlook web technology and the simple outlet of email.
  • Make sure to send a thank you to every donor or new recruit and also a letter following the Walk to let everyone know how you did.

July 30, 2008

Dear Family and Friends:

This year I have joined (or formed) the (team name), raising funds to help in the fight against cancer as part of the Walk to Cure Cancer, a five-mile walkathon around Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, September 28, 2008. All proceeds from the Walk to Cure Cancer will support cancer research at the UMass Medical School in conjunction with the UMass Memorial Cancer Center in Worcester.

For decades, heart disease has been the nation's top killer. Now cancer has taken its place for Americans 85 and younger. An estimated 1,372,910 new cancer cases and 570,260 cancer deaths are expected this year.

This terrible disease has touched all of us through our families, friends and loved ones. Would you consider joining me at the Walk to Cure Cancer? You could walk in honor of a cancer survivor or in memory of a lost loved one. If you are unable to join me in Worcester on September 28, 2008, I would like to ask for a contribution to help us find a cure (please make checks payable to the Walk to Cure Cancer). I am enclosing a stamped, self-addressed envelope for your convenience. Or you can mail  your donation directly to Walk to Cure Cancer, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury MA 01545.

If you need any information, please call me at (your phone number here). I would love to hear from you!

Sincerely,

(Your name)

Together we can make a difference!
